The United Nations projects Africa’s population to reach 2.5 billion by 2050 – thus, nearly one-third of the world’s population. African youth will make up the majority of this population in the next two decades. By 2050, 35% of the world’s youth will be Africans.

This accelerated growth poses many challenges in terms of social cohesion, poverty eradication, access to quality education and skills development, employment, and preservation of the environment. However, population growth is not necessarily a constraint to development. The surge in population can be attuned to a wealth of qualified workforce along with education and skills investment. Africa’s youthful population is its asset, and it is important that we inculcate the right education and skills in them to accelerate the needed transformation.

The ESDEV innovative programmes are therefore tailored to equip the teaming young Africans with the needed education and skills to contribute positively to the Continent’s socio-economic progress.
